SKIN ON SKIN

Everything we sense, we feel through our skin. This thin layer between air and flesh; the strange texture, stretching and wrinkling, holding our bodies in place. So then, what is a leaf if not the skin of a tree, breathing the sun. And might sand be just the skin of a mountain, fragmented and shaped through pressure and time.

In our experimental editorial SKIN ON SKIN, we explore the intersection of human and non-human materiality. Instead of human designers, we work with collected biomaterial like leafs, pods, sand, and hair; juxtaposing it with contemporary bio-material made of a composite and edible algae mixture. We look at skin as an inter-face – to quite literally make sense of the world, and our material engagement with it.

jendrik schröder is an artist, director and photographer currently based between berlin, seoul and hong kong. he studied communications at the university of the arts berlin, film studies in stockholm, photography at ostkreuzschule berlin, and holds a master’s degree in intercultural philosophy and arts. currently, he is persuing his phd on ecosensibility in contemporary arts in hong kong. inspired by post-humanism and phenomenology practices, while driven by ecologic urgency, his work aims to challenge cartesian rationalism and anthropocentrism. his work ranges from visual arts to ecosensitive fashion editorials, and from audio compositions to essay-documentaries.

in 2022, he co-founded the creative studio offshoot*berlin. currently, jendrik is working on his essay documentary 'what is a pine tree'. in 2025, he is launching the podcast (ps.) / posthuman society.
